Successful Installation of TALON® Sulfide Elimination System

Streamline Innovations in partnership with HP Thompson, a Veolia Water Technologies representative, successfully piloted and installed a permanent TALON Sulfide Elimination System (TSES™) system for H2S and other malodorous compound treatment in the belt press room at a wastewater treatment plant in central Ohio.

Historically, odors have been a persistent issue in the press building and have made working conditions difficult for plant personnel. Another product had been used but the results were not satisfactory to plant management.

The TSES chemistry was injected inline 2-3 minutes upstream from the belt press and successfully performed the REDOX process prior to discharge. The pressed sludge only had a mild compost aroma and plant personnel repeatedly remarked that it was comfortable to be in the press room for long durations without headaches or smelling offensive once they left the building.

Additionally, operating expenses were reduced by approximately 10%.

TSES is one of Streamline’s differentiated technologies developed for Wastewater H2S and Odor Control.

We are excited about this partnership and look forward to more biosolids related opportunities in the future.

White Paper Summary

Wastewater Odor Control in the Spotlight

Odor control at municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities has become a primary concern, as population growth brings more people into proximity of wastewater operations.

Residential communities are less tolerant of nuisance odors, and failure to cost-effectively control noxious odors can result in significant fines, damage corporate reputations and stress goodwill with communities.

Fortunately, wastewater professionals have a variety of odor control technologies available. In this paper we cover the most common odor control methods and discuss the best practices in wastewater management.

The Problem of H2S Treating and Wastewater Odor Control

At the root of odors generated from wastewater operations is hydrogen sulfide (H2S), which is a naturally occurring compound generated by bacterial breakdown or decomposition of organic material, both plant and animal, in anaerobic (absence of oxygen) conditions.

Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic, poisonous gas that is destructive to infrastructure and can be deadly to humans. H2S treatment is a critical concern for wastewater odor control.

H2S Treatment Methods

Methods for mitigating H2S-related odors have evolved over time, and today wastewater professionals have a variety of alternatives at their disposal.

Odor control H2S treating methods today include:

  • Aqueous phase H2S treatments (traditional)
  • Vapor phase H2S treatments (traditional)
  • Next Generation Redox for H2S treating (modern)

Traditional H2S treating methods have their individual benefits and drawbacks, which we cover in our white paper on odor control best practices.

The Future of Wastewater Treatment – Next Generation Redox

Recent technological breakthroughs in chemistry and process optimization have ushered in a new era of H2S treating and wastewater odor control.

The TALON® Sulfide Elimination System (TSES™) from Streamline Innovations is a next generation Redox process for H2S treatment in both the water and vapor stages, eliminating foul odors without the downsides of traditional H2S treating methods.

TALON® Sulfide Elimination System technology page.

The TSES is a true game changer, by being the only solution capable of H2S treatment in both water and vapor phases. Using the same catalyst in both water and atmospheric situations, it works equally well (no loss in efficacy). This provides tremendous flexibility in applications at municipal and industrial wastewater operations.

Regenerative Solution. The TSES is a regenerative process that restores the chemistry so it can be reused, significantly reducing the cost of H2S treating.

Unlike like some hydrogen sulfide treatment processes that create pollution or toxic wastes, Streamline’s Valkyrie destroys H2S, and creates elemental sulfur that can be used for soil amendment in agriculture.

The Bridge to a Green Future

Streamline’s Valkyrie solution employs our proprietary Talon®, a non-toxic, biodegradable Redox (“Reduction-Oxidation”) chemistry process that removes H2S from gas streams by converting it (“reduction”) to elemental sulfur and then regenerating the chemistry by introducing air (“oxidization”), so the chemistry can repeat the treating process, over and over again.  Talon is safe to transport and safe to handle, improving worker safety and quality of life.

Streamline technology gives industries a bridge to a net-zero, sustainable future. We look forward on reporting our progress in our next scorecard.

  • Streamline and Zamil Group Trade & Services have joined forces to provide cutting-edge H2S treatment solutions for upstream, midstream and downstream energy applications throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • The partnership strategically positions Streamline to support the largest oil and gas operations in the world with a proven technology that improves ESG performance
  • The partnership accelerates Streamline’s global growth plan into a key growth market
  • This is the second partnership focused on the Middle East market Streamline has announced in the past three months

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS AND DAMMAN, SAUDI ARABIA, January 12, 2022 – Streamline Innovations, Inc. (Streamline) and Zamil Group Trade & Services (Zamil), a trading company and supplier to the energy industry, are pleased to announce a partnership to market and deploy Streamline’s environmentally forward treatment solutions for hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Under the terms of the Agreement, Zamil is serving as Streamline’s agent in the KSA.

This business initiative comes at a time when the collective Middle East energy industry is moving toward more sustainable operations aimed at improving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance. Saudi Arabia recently announced its intent to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2060 by implementing a diverse set of initiatives in the Kingdom aimed at protecting the environment and addressing climate change. More specifically, Saudi Aramco, the world’s largest energy company, previously committed to the World Bank Initiative “Zero Routine Flaring by 2030.”

Crude oil and natural gas production streams are often contaminated with H2S, which represents a serious hazard to human health and is highly corrosive to infrastructure. This “sour” gas is routinely flared to destroy the H2S, but flaring results in the generation of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions, which contributes to environmental hazards, including acid rain and respiratory ailments in humans.

To utilize sour oil and gas for beneficial uses, such as power generation, it must be treated to remove the H2S. Conventional treatment methods are typically expensive, generate negative downstream effects and do not permanently prevent the H2S from reconstituting itself. Streamline and Zamil are partnering to provide vital H2S treating services throughout the KSA with the VALKYRIE™ and TALON® solutions, which safely break down H2S at the molecular level into elemental sulfur.

The partnership will focus on initiatives and other opportunities designed to reduce or eliminate H2S and SO2 emissions while creating sustainable, usable energy in the form of clean natural gas or electricity and facilitate capture and use of related carbon dioxide (CO2) streams. Streamline’s biodegradable chemistry and cutting-edge technology delivers the next-generation Redox process, converting toxic gas into elemental sulfur that can be utilized for organic food production, while providing the lowest overall lifecycle cost.

“Partnering with Zamil is an important part of our international growth plan to bring our environmentally forward solutions to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, one of the world’s most important energy producing regions,” said David Sisk, CEO of Streamline Innovations. “As momentum grows to achieve net-zero emissions and mitigate climate change, Streamline’s solutions are poised to play a significant role in achieving environmental performance objectives. Zamil is an established, well-respected company with a long track record of successfully introducing new technology to Saudi Arabia and beyond. This is the second partnership in the Middle East we have announced in the past three months, which is a testament to the growing momentum in the demand for our innovative, technology-based solutions that simultaneously add economic value while improving environmental performance.”

“The establishment of this relationship with Streamline Innovations comes at an important time for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” said Khalid Al Zamil, Chairman. “The KSA has made meaningful commitments to achieve net-zero emissions and improve sustainability. We believe novel and effective technologies, like those offered by Streamline, offer the best alternatives for achieving the Kingdom’s environmental goals in the shortest amount of time. Streamline’s solutions strengthen our portfolio of technology and services to help the KSA maintain its role as the world’s key supplier of responsibly sourced energy.”

Streamline brings its environmentally forward technology and technical expertise to the partnership, while Zamil provides access and entry to the Saudi Arabian market, local expertise, infrastructure and established customer relationships, including Saudi Aramco.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (December 8, 2021)

Streamline Innovations today announced that a significant independent Permian Basin oil and gas producer has expanded their deployment of Streamline’s VALKYRIE® solution for treating hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

Standard VALKYRIE™ 1.0 LTPD Skid Unit for treating hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at a multi-well pad in the Delaware Basin in New Mexico.

This expansion follows the successful installation and operation of a single VALKYRIE 1.0 LTPD Skid Unit on one of the operator’s multi-well pads in Lea County, New Mexico earlier this year. Encouraged by the performance of the VALKYRIE units, the operator has procured additional units to treat sour gas at three more pads in the near term with plans for more units as they develop their leases.

Processing capacity in the area has been limited by the substantial time and capital expenditures needed for the midstream companies to develop large-scale H2S treating or Acid-Gas Injection wells.  Historically, sour gas or separated H2S could be flared, but pressure to reduce routine flaring has grown significantly and prevailing commodity prices have made sweetened gas more valuable.  With the VALKYRIE unit, the operator has been able to overcome the constraint of limited sour take-away, while realizing more revenue from gas sales.

When complete, the field-wide deployment is expected to consist of 10 of Streamline’s standard 1-ton VALKYRIE Skids, each capable of processing well over 2,000 pounds of Sulfur from H2S per day.

Streamline is managing, servicing, and maintaining the VALKYRIE fleet under a long-term Operating Agreement, providing a headache-free solution to the operator.

About the VALKYRIE® Solution

The VALKYRIE® solution is Streamline Innovations’ suite of H2S gas treating systems.  The VALKYRIE system utilizes TALON®, our non-toxic, biodegradable Redox chemistry. In combination with our advanced automation and control technology, we have created “The Next Generation Redox” system. The gas sweetened by the VALKYRIE Unit is either sold or used for gas lift operations on the well pad, which eliminates the need to flare natural gas contaminated by H2S, further reducing emissions including potential emissions of SO2.

VALKYRIE systems have the widest operating envelope of any H2S Treating method extending across the full spectrum of pressures, flow rates and H2S concentrations.  There are multiple sizes and configurations of VALKYRIE skids and plants that can be placed anywhere along the production stream whether at the wellhead or refinery, in a direct or tail gas treating configuration. The VALKYRIE system has near 100% turndown without losing treating efficiency.  We don’t just treat, we treat to established specifications for sales pipelines, gas lift and fuel gas.  In addition, the VALKYRIE system with Talon treats other sulfur compounds in gas phase including mercaptans, sulfides, disulfides, and thiophenes. We specialize in meeting the most stringent outlet specifications.

Using proprietary and proven Streamline technology, the VALKYRIE solution permanently destroys H2S by converting it into elemental sulfur, which is listed with the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI) for use in Organic Production as Simple Elemental Sulfur™.

All VALKYRIE units include our intelligence platform for local monitoring and automated controls as well as our robust SCADA system allowing remote monitoring, control and analytical capabilities.  Our portal is available for smart phones, tablets and desktops.  We maintain a 24/7 control room to ensure highest uptime and operational integrity.  Streamline provides a range of operational support, from full turnkey operations to remote monitoring and analytical services.

The sales and marketing initiative comes at a time when the global energy industry is moving towards the goal of achieving net-zero emissions and eliminating the routine flaring of natural gas. In response to growing momentum to improve Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, U.A.E. and other oil producing nations in the Middle East are transitioning to more sustainable and environmentally friendly operational practices.

Instead of flaring H2S-contaminated natural gas that is produced in association with crude oil, producers in the region are seeking innovative cost-effective methods to treat contaminated gas and employ it for beneficial uses. Streamline technology destroys H2S and converts it into Simple Elemental Sulfur™, which is listed with the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI) for use in Organic Production.

“We are excited to partner with EMDAD to bring our innovative, environmentally forward solutions to the clients and citizens of the U.A.E., accelerating our growth into one of the world’s most important oil and gas producing countries,” said David Sisk, CEO of Streamline Innovations. “Our solutions can help oil and gas producers achieve their ESG mandates, eliminate routine flaring of contaminated gas and reduce emissions, typically while generating additional revenue. EMDAD is an ideal partner to help us enter the U.A.E. market with their established presence, well trained staff, and knowledge of the unique challenges faced by operators in the region.”

“The establishment of this relationship with Streamline Innovations comes at an opportune time for both our clients and our company,” said Mohammed Juma Al Bawardi, Chairman of EMDAD. “Our clients are seeking new, innovative approaches that not only help them achieve their environmental performance goals, but also generate more revenue. Streamline’s solutions are aligned with these objectives, and we anticipate their technologies will be a key factor in strengthening relationships with existing clients and attracting new business.”

Streamline brings its technology based VALKYRIE™ H2S treatment solution and technical expertise to the partnership, while EMDAD brings local connections, existing client relationships and local knowledge of the U.A.E. market, including ADNOC. This combination provides oil and gas producers in the region with proven solutions for treating H2S and achieving ESG mandates, supported by a reliable and professional local team.
