Landfill Gas (LFG) streams are important feedstocks for upgrading to Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). Before LFG can be sold to a commercial pipeline as RNG, however, it must be treated for hydrogen sulfide (H2S) contamination.
Landfills, while necessary for waste management, emit significant amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. However, innovative technologies are emerging to mitigate this environmental impact while simultaneously creating valuable resources. Streamline Innovation is at the forefront of this movement, offering a solution to convert LFG into Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and fuel gas, transforming a liability into an asset.
Landfill Gas to RNG Opportunity
Landfill gas often contains hydrogen sulfide (H2S), dimethyl sulfide (DMS), mercaptans and other substances, which produce unpleasant odors and pose environmental and safety concerns. Treating LFG for H2S contamination is essential for safe operation, air permitting (for SO2 emissions), regulatory compliance, and community well-being.
Moreover, LFG streams serve as vital feedstocks for RNG production, requiring treatment for H2S contamination before commercial distribution via pipelines. Additionally, LFG can be treated for H2S and conditioned for use as fuel gas for reciprocating engine or turbine generators.
Keeping Green Landfills Green – VALKYRIE® ECO and ECO FLEX H2S Treating Solutions
Streamline Innovation’s VALKYRIE® ECO and ECO FLEX H2S treating systems are tailor-made for landfill gas operations. These solutions effectively removes H2S, DMS, and mercaptans from LFG streams in a cost-effective and sustainable manner. By converting H2S into elemental sulfur with no harmful byproducts, the system eliminates odors and enables renewable LFG to fulfill its potential as a clean energy source.

How It Works
Using next-generation Liquid Redox technology, Streamline’s solution harnesses a chemical reaction known as Reduction-Oxidation (Redox) to convert H2S into elemental sulfur. The chemistry can be regenerated through an oxidation process, allowing for continuous operation. Landfill gas containing H2S and CO2 exits the system purified, while the sulfur is filtered and stored for reuse or disposal.
Benefits
The VALKYRIE ECO and ECO FLEX H2S treating solutions deliver several benefits to Landfill operators seeking to convert their waste streams into RNG, including:
- Treats to Non-Detect Levels from a Single Skid.
- No Additional Conditioning Equipment Required.
- Insensitive to Variability in Flow Rates and Temperatures.
- Converts H2S into OMRI Certified Simple Elemental Sulfur™.
- Made in the USA, ensuring quality and reliability.
In summary, Streamline Innovation’s VALKYRIE H2S treating technology offers landfill gas operators a reliable, proven, and green solution for removing H2S from gas streams to facilitate the LFG-to-RNG upgrading process while simultaneously mitigating odors and ensuring safety.
